Myles Birket Foster letters, announcement, and booklet, 1855-1964.

The collection consists of three letters, an announcement, and a booklet: Foster writes to Miss Stormont, 3 Mar. 1855, recommending Mr. Jno. Greenaway as an instructor; to Miss Stormont, 18 Apr. 1855, praising her sample engraving, encouraging her, and commenting on Mr. Greenaway's abilities as an engraver; to Crawford J. Pocock, 20 Feb. 1879, about his recently published book; the announcement concerns Birket Foster's pictures of English landscape, printed on India paper, published circa 1881; the booklet, Birket Foster, A Victorian Countryside Artist, circa 1964, arranged and designed by W.T. Farrer, published by J.L. Carr, features a short biography and rustic engravings from several of Birket Foster's books.

Myles Birket Foster was a popular Victorian-era illustrator and watercolor painter, noted for his technical proficiency and rustic scenes. First apprenticed to a wood engraver, he later worked as an illustrator for books and periodicals before successfully publishing books of his own illustrations.
